Over a decade ago, designing and managing construction projects meant stacks of paperwork, manual sketches, and a high risk of miscalculations. Marco Martino (Project Control & Training Officer) and Danar Wibisono (Senior IT Officer), both working at TeamworX for more than ten years, can recall those days vividly.
“Ten years ago, construction designs were previewed in 2D on paper. It was challenging to predict the exact placement of structural elements, and it increased the risk of design clashes and costly revisions,” Marco explained.
However, everything changed when TeamworX started to utilize digital technology. In 2014, the company became one of the earliest construction consultants in Indonesia that fully integrated Building Information Modeling (BIM) into its workflow.
The digital adoption began with Revit, a cutting-edge design software from Autodesk AEC (Architecture, Engineering, and Construction). TeamworX utilized this software to design and manage the construction of Top Food Indonesia’s 16,000 sqm production facility at Millennium Industrial Estate in Cikupa, Banten, from November 2014 to September 2017.
Since then, TeamworX has consistently implemented the latest technology innovations in every project, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of the Design & Engineering (DE), Quantity Surveying & Contract Management (QS), and Project & Construction Management (CM) services.
The implementation of digital technology brought these three key benefits to TeamworX and its stakeholders:
1. Seamless Collaboration
Digital technology allows multidisciplinary members of the DE team to collaborate in real-time during the design phase. They will work on a unified platform in Revit where updates are instantly visible to all stakeholders.
Clients can also view the 3D design using Autodesk Navisworks and track construction progress using Procore during the tender and construction phases.
This digital integration creates clear communication between TeamworX, contractors, and clients, reducing errors and avoiding unnecessary rework.
2. Clash Detection & Prevention
During the design phase, the DE team uses Revit and Visicon to detect potential clashes between building elements. The structural placements will be precisely visualized in 3D modeling, creating room for design revisions before proceeding to the construction phase.
“The 3D model helps us identify, predict, and prevent potential clashes before breaking ground, hence reducing costly on-site modifications,” Danar said.
3. Time & Cost Efficiency
Thanks to Autodesk AEC, Glodon, Planswift, Visicon and Procore, TeamworX has fully transitioned to a paperless system that reduces paper waste since 2020. The CM team uses the software to update and check the project progress by uploading required documents from their smartphones, tablets, or laptops during the construction phase.
Besides the DE team, the QS team also utilizes Revit along with Glodon to accurately estimate building volume and project cost during the design and tender phases.
“By integrating digital technology into our Design and Engineering, Quantity Surveying, and Construction Management services, we’ve accelerated project timelines by 10-15%, while reducing material waste and construction rework to optimize costs,” Marco said.
Marco added that digital technology also helps TeamworX’ s clients for the long-term as they receive detailed data during the post-construction phase.
“It will be easier for clients to repair or maintain the building because they will get complete data about every inch of the building structures and elements,” he concluded.
Today, TeamworX has fully integrated digital technology across all construction projects. For instance, in the Aspen Medical Hospital project, Revit was not only used for TeamworX’ s internal collaboration. The software is also utilized for real-time external collaboration with clients and contractors, ensuring the construction work aligns with the design and budget plans.
