TeamworX Project
24 Jul 2025
When a pharmaceutical construction project demands the perfect balance of functionality, aesthetics, and stringent industry standards, success comes down to more than just good design.
This was the case with the construction of PT Erlangga Edi Laboratories (Erela)’s pharmaceutical facilities in Salatiga, Central Java. TeamworX led the project as both the design and construction management consultant, providing comprehensive Engineering, Procurement, and Construction Management (EPCM) services.
The project kicked off in April 2022, covering a 16,830 sqm building footprint that houses Erela’s pharmaceutical factory, research and development (R&D) facility, office space, and ballroom. It was completed in June 2025.
How did the process begin?
As part of Erela’s pharmaceutical facility project, TeamworX provided consultancy services aimed at aligning design solutions with budget requirements. During the pre-construction phase, the Quantity Surveying (QS) team prepared a preliminary budget and cost plan, offering clear financial guidelines to support design decisions that met Erela’s expectations within defined budget constraints. This early cost management approach helped maintain financial control while ensuring the high standards required for a pharmaceutical environment were achieved.
The effectiveness of this approach depended on close coordination between the client, engineers, and quantity surveyors throughout the process. TeamworX facilitated strong collaboration to balance design intent, cost planning, and technical requirements at every stage. Value engineering was applied to optimize design elements, material selections, and construction phases without compromising quality. Additionally, TeamworX supported Erela in selecting qualified contractors for piling, CSA, and MEP works, ensuring fair procurement and efficient execution aligned with project objectives.
What makes this project special?
Erela’s pharmaceutical facility is TeamworX’s one of high-rise factory project, featuring up to eight floor levels. The project combines functionality with aesthetics, which became one of the challenges during the design process.
“Although it’s a factory, the building needs to look aesthetic so it won’t look like a typical factory,” explained Eka Ahzab, Senior Project Manager at TeamworX.
Teamworx addressed this challenge by ensuring clear communication and strong collaboration across all disciplines. One of the key tools that supported the smooth coordination during the design development phase is Revit, which helped all stakeholders identify and prevent construction clashes before they occurred.
“It’s challenging, but we believe there’s nothing we can’t overcome in engineering,” Eka said.
How does TeamworX manage the construction process?
No construction project comes without hurdles.
In working on Erela’s construction project, TeamworX had to navigate tight deadlines, strict safety protocols, a capped budget, and the need to align technical requirements with Erela’s design preferences.
Therefore, regular updates and clear communication are crucial in synchronizing the work of civil and MEP contractors throughout the construction phase. The process began with a kickoff meeting before starting the construction, followed by weekly coordination session with all contractors, and occasional technical meetings to ensure any issues were resolved promptly.
This collaborative spirit was enhanced with Procore, one of the tools that TeamworX utilized to monitor construction progress and streamline communication during the construction phase.
“Having clear and transparent communication among all stakeholders helps us quickly solve any issues on-site, whether technical or non-technical,” says Arief Ariadi, TeamworX’s Construction Manager for the Erela project.
